Watch: Trump expected to announce ‘Department of War’ rebrand

President Trump gave remarks from the Oval Office on Friday related to his push to rebrand the Defense Department as the “Department of War.”

Trump was expected to sign an executive order to revert the department to a previous label, after signaling in recent weeks he believes it better reflects the Pentagon’s offensive operations.

The Department of War was first established by George Washington in 1789 and existed until 1947. It was renamed the Department of Defense in 1949.

Trump’s comments followed legislation that was unveiled by GOP lawmakers earlier Friday that would bolster the rebranding.
