Politics 101: Lessons from Virginia, NJ ahead of 2022 midterm elections

The results of the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections Tuesday offer a sharp warning to President Biden and Democrats ahead of next year’s midterms. 

In Virginia, Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat and former governor Terry McAuliffe in a state that Biden won by 10 points in 2020.

New Jersey’s Democratic incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy defeated Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli by a narrow margin in a state that is seen as safely blue.
