Lawmaker: Terrorism ‘chatter is up’

A key Democratic lawmaker tells The Hill that U.S. officials have recently detected an uptick in terrorism “chatter.”

{mosads}Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, said, “They are not necessarily specific threats. We just know the chatter is up in places. We’re being a little bit more vigilant.”

The Department of Homeland Security earlier this month announced it was beefing up security measures at international airports. Travelers are now now required to turn on electronic devices such as cellphones and laptops at security checkpoints.
