Cantor: House will pass short-term CR

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said he expects the House to pass a short-term continuing resolution (CR) early next week, which will fund the government until Jan. 18.

“The expected … expiration of the CR will be Saturday the 18th of January,” he said on the House floor.

{mosads}Cantor said he expects the House to pass this short-term spending bill as a suspension bill, the process used for non-controversial bills. Treating the short-term CR as a suspension bill means it will require a two-thirds majority for passage, which means Democratic support is needed.

Cantor outlined the plan in his weekly discussion with Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Hoyer responded by saying he’s fine with the idea.

“I will support it on suspension, I urge my colleagues to support it on suspension,” Hoyer said of the short-term spending bill.
