GOP lawmaker works with Bill Murray on ‘Monuments Men’ bill

A House Republican lawmaker has enlisted the help of actor Bill Murray to move her legislation honoring the “Monuments Men.”

{mosads}Since introducing the measure in mid-December, Texas GOP Rep. Kay Granger has picked up 75 co-sponsors for her resolution that would recognize more than 300 World War II veterans who rescued millions of famous pieces of art from the Nazis with the Congressional Gold Medal.

Murray stars in George Clooney’s “Monuments Men” movie, which is based on the U.S.-led effort to save and return the masterpieces.

Clooney and his fellow cast members, including Murray and Matt Damon, attended a screening of the movie at the White House earlier this week.

Granger is optimistic that her measure, and its companion bill in the Senate, sponsored by GOP Sen. Roy Blunt (Mo.), will pass.

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest honor the legislative branch can bestow on a civilian.
