Mulvaney: Speaker vote could lead to ‘chaos’
A GOP lawmaker who played a role in John Boehner’s decision to resign as Speaker says chaos is a real possibility when the full House votes for Boehner’s replacement Oct. 29.
Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), co-founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus, said Thursday’s internal House GOP vote to pick the party’s nominee for Speaker may not result in one of the three candidates winning the 218 votes needed to claim the gavel.
{mosads}Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is expected to lead the way, but Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) are challenging him for the Speakership.
“I’m not a fan of chaos for the sake of chaos. … I hope it doesn’t come to that. That said there’s some real anger within the party right now,” Mulvaney said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.
