Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted Monday that she hasn’t driven an automobile since 1996, midway through her husband’s presidency.
{mosads}During a speech at the National Automobile Dealers Association, Clinton said she’s “always enjoyed stories about cars and adventures,” but hadn’t been behind the wheel in more than a decade.
“I have to confess one of the regrets I have about my public life is I can’t drive anymore,” Clinton said.
The former first lady went on to joke that she was not the best driver on the road.
“My husband thinks that’s a blessing, but he’s the one who should talk,” she continued. “The last time I actually drove a car myself was 1996, and I remember it very well, and unfortunately so does the Secret Service, which is why I haven’t driven since then.”
Clinton isn’t the only possible 2016 presidential candidate to visit Michigan and talk cars in recent weeks. Vice President Joe Biden visited the Detroit auto show earlier this month and talked about the classic Corvette he keeps at his home in Delaware.
“I’m like a kid in a candy shop,” the vice president said at the show.
