First lady, Richard Sherman poke fun at outburst

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman channeled his infamous postgame rant for a new White House video promoting first lady Michelle Obama’s healthy eating initiative.

Sherman exploded into the national consciousness when, after securing Seattle’s conference championship with a tipped pass, he brazenly declared himself “the best corner in the game” during an emotional postgame interview.

The Super Bowl champion, who visited the White House earlier this month for a ceremony with the president, poked fun at the incident in a Web video that showed Sherman and other Seahawks players preparing healthy meals in the executive mansion’s kitchen.

In the clip, the first lady asks Sherman to “take me through your final plate” — a play on Fox sideline reporter Erin Andrews’s question prompting the outburst.

{mosads}”Well let me tell you, we the best chefs in the game,” Sherman says. “So when you try us with a easy meal like salmon cakes and succotash, that’s the result you gonna get!”

Sherman goes on to extol the virtues of eating healthy.

“You’ve got to put the right fuel in your body in order to perform at your best,” Sherman said.

President Obama also poked fun at Sherman’s outburst during the championship celebration earlier this month.

“I considered inviting Sherman up here to the podium today — I’d have given him the mic, but you know we’ve got to go in a little bit,” the president joked.

Obama also mentioned Sherman’s outburst during his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Sometimes I do feel disrespected by you reporters,” said Obama. “But that’s OK. Seattle Seahawk cornerback Richard Sherman is here tonight. And he gave me some great tips on how to handle it. Jake Tapper, don’t you ever talk about me like that! I’m the best president in the game!”
