A Republican lawmaker says Congress must give President Obama the authority to use military force against terrorist groups, including ISIS.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) added that Obama “should be doing more” to uproot the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
{mosads}Wolf will introduce measures next week that would make it clear that Congress supports Obama’s use of military action to “disrupt and eliminate” terror groups and to update the War Powers Resolution.
“I think [Obama] should be doing more. I think they have known what was going on for months, and I think they have not acted. But on the other hand, I think the Congress has to also be involved. Congress can’t just criticize the administration but yet not do anything. … Congress has to be part of this,” said Wolf, who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies.
Wolf sponsored a related measure earlier this year that would give the president the authority to restrict U.S. travel to countries such as Syria, where foreign terrorist groups are training extremist followers.
