Dem strategists: Clinton must avoid gutter fight with Trump
Democratic strategists say Hillary Clinton should avoid getting into a nasty campaign battle with Donald Trump.
Trump muscled his way to clinching the GOP presidential nomination. Observers expect him to use the same strategy in the general election and are advising Clinton not to follow suit.
{mosads}”She should avoid getting into gutter with the guy to the extent possible,” said Jim Manley, a Democratic operative and Clinton supporter.
“She’ll respond where she needs to, but leave the heavy lifting to surrogates.”
Though some have suggested the presumptive nominee should toughen up as she prepares to go up against Trump, Democratic strategists Peter Fenn and Rodell Mollineau are confident she is plenty tough.
