Immigration hard-liner backs Trump’s tone shift

An influential anti-immigration activist says Donald Trump’s softer approach on deporting people in the country illegally was a shift in tone, not policy.

“When Donald Trump talks about immigration, he’s trying to improve his tone, show he has a heart, and that he understands that these are difficult, challenging moral issues,” Federation for American Immigration Reform President Dan Stein told The Hill.

{mosads}Stein said the GOP presidential nominee’s change in approach won’t keep voters from supporting him in November.

“Right now, there’s not evidence that anybody who is highly motivated to vote for Trump because of his immigration stance is walking away,” he said.
