Hillary Clinton is calling it “really weird” how GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump “stalked” her around the stage at the second presidential debate.
“He was really all wrought up and you could just sense how much anger he had, and so he was really trying to dominate and literally stalk me around the stage,” the Democratic White House hopeful told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview airing Friday on “Ellen.”
“And I would just feel this presence behind me,” Clinton said with a laugh, “and I thought, woah, this is really weird.”
Social media lit up during Sunday’s town hall-style debate in St. Louis when Trump was seen looming behind Clinton. Some Twitter users called Trump’s pacing near Clinton “uncomfortable” and “menacing.”
{mosads}“It was clear my opponent, Donald Trump, was going to try to dominate the space almost to the exclusion of the people that were sitting there,” Clinton told DeGeneres, in her first sit-down since the debate. The “Ellen” appearance was originally scheduled for last month, but was cancelled after Clinton’s doctor diagnosed the candidate with pneumonia.
“I was just trying to stay focused, trying to keep my composure, trying to interact with the moderators, but really for me more with the people there, and deal with the string of accusations that he was putting forth,” Clinton said.
“It’s like debating a teenager. Whatever — he just says things and interrupts,” DeGeneres said. “Like, what’s wrong with you?” the daytime talk show host added of Trump.
The former secretary of State also remarked on the “shimmy” she did during the first debate in September. A clip of the shoulder move quickly went viral, and was transformed into GIFs and YouTube videos.
“You must’ve known at the time that that came out of you,” DeGeneres said.
“I didn’t,” Clinton exclaimed. “I knew that I said, ‘Wooh,’ I knew that — but I didn’t know that I did the little shimmy to go along with it. And afterwards I saw it and now people are always saying to me, ‘Do the shimmy! Do the shimmy!’”
