WATCH: New York Dem says Trump takes advantage of NYPD

Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) says President Trump takes “advantage” of the New York Police Department because it has to protect Trump Tower where the first lady and their 10-year-old son are living until the end of the school year.

President Trump is “taking advantage right now of our NYPD because unlike any president in our history, we have to protect properties outside of the White House because his family still resides outside of the White House,” Clarke said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.

The Brooklyn native made the comment during an interview about her proposal protecting sanctuary cities.

{mosads}Clarke argues that the president’s sanctuary city ban adversely impacts New York City in particular, citing future reductions in resources and cooperation between immigrant communities and law enforcement.

Clarke noted that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won New York and speculated whether that tied into Trump’s sanctuary city actions.

“I don’t know whether this could be considered some sort of spiteful maneuver on his part … [or if] he’s even aware New York is a sanctuary city,” Clarke said. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
