WATCH: Cotton confident of Pompeo confirmation

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) is confident that Mike Pompeo will be confirmed as secretary of State.

{mosads}“Mike Pompeo will be confirmed next week to be the next secretary of State,” Cotton told The Hill in an interview. 

Pompeo faces a difficult vote on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee next week. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) opposes Pompeo’s nomination and could join with the panel’s Democrats in voting “no.”

That would prevent Pompeo from getting a favorable committee vote.

On the Senate floor, however, Pompeo has already won the support of one Democrat — Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.). He’s likely to get at least 50 votes.
