Sanders: ‘Real path toward victory’ if I win Washington state
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is touting Saturday’s caucuses in Washington state as a key step that can send him to the presidency.
Speaking to an estimated 15,000 supporters at a baseball stadium in Seattle on Friday, Sanders laid out his path from the Pacific Northwest to the Oval Office.
{mosads}“We have now won 11 states. And if there are large turnouts in Washington, Hawaii and Alaska, we have a shot to win three more,” he said, listing the three Saturday contests.
“And I believe that if we win here in Washington, we’re gonna win in California, we are gonna win in Oregon, and we’ve got a real path toward victory.”
Sanders trails rival Hillary Clinton in delegates heading into Saturday’s votes. Clinton has 1,223 pledged delegates, and Sanders 920.
Washington’s caucuses offer a total of 101 pledged delegates — one of the largest totals left up for grabs.
Oregon’s primary, on May 17, offers 61 pledged delegates.
And California, whose 475 pledged delegates is by far the largest total for any state, holds its primary June 7.
