Colbert on Jones victory: ‘It’s a Christmas miracle!’
Late-night host Stephen Colbert called Democrat Doug Jones’s victory in Tuesday’s Alabama Senate special election a “Christmas miracle.”
“Yes, Virginia, there IS an Alabama,” Colbert tweeted.
IT’S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! Yes, Virginia, there IS an Alabama!!

Colbert was referencing a famous newspaper editorial published in 1897 responding to a young girl asking whether Santa Claus existed.
Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore Tuesday night. He led by more than 20,000 votes, or 1.5 percentage points, with all precincts reporting. Moore, however, has refused to concede.
{mosads}Moore was plagued by accusations from multiple women that he made advances on them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. One woman said Moore initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and he was 32.
Colbert has repeatedly mocked Moore in recent weeks, focusing on the allegations.
On the eve of the election, Colbert said Moore has to go door to door when he moves into a new neighborhood, just as his supporters did last weekend.
He has also joked that Moore’s approach to picking up women was to go “a food-courtin’,” a reference to reports that Moore had been banned from a local mall for hitting on teenage girls there.
