Republican pollster B.J. Martino said Wednesday that the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report would not have an effect on President Trump’s approval rating because those figures are “baked in.”
“I think we see the president’s number is baked in,” Martino, a partner at The Tarrance Group, told host Jamal Simmons on Hill.TV’s “What America’s Thinking.”
“You have to look deeper at different numbers to understand how these sorts of events are really taking its toll on the president going forward,” Martino said.
Martino’s comments come after a new Hill-HarrisX survey released Wednesday found that Trump’s approval rating changed little after the release of the redacted version of Mueller’s report into Russia’s election interference.
Forty-five percent of registered voters surveyed said they approved of the president’s job in office, dipping just 1 percentage point since the last Hill-HarrisX poll last week.
Still, another poll showed a significant drop in Trump’s approval rating after the report’s release.
A Politico/Morning Consult poll released Monday showed the president’s approval rating at 39 percent, a 5-point drop from last week.
