Greta Thunberg joins student ‘climate strike’ outside White House

Swedish teen environmental activist Greta Thunberg participated in a youth “climate strike” outside the White House on Friday afternoon.

The protest was part of Thunberg’s six-day visit to Washington, which will conclude with her testifying Wednesday at a joint hearing of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, Energy and the Environment.

{mosads}Thunberg thanked fellow demonstrators on Friday but did not give a speech, saying instead that other protesters “have already said everything.”

Thunberg has spoken at the U.K. House of Commons and the European Parliament. For environmental reasons, she does not travel by plane. She arrived in the U.S. on an emission-free yacht.

Thunberg is scheduled to participate in the global climate strikes that begin Sept. 20. The demonstrations are intended to influence the United Nations Climate Action Summit that begins Sept. 23 at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
