A witness by the name of Denis Chebotar was by the Irtysh River in Siberia, securing a boat to the riverhead, when he heard Medvedev yell out “A bear!” according to the Post, which cited East 2 West.

Chebotar rushed in to provide assistance, but it was too late — Dudnik was mauled and Medvedev was delivering the final blows with a knife. Prior to reaching Medvedev, Chebotar also heard gunshots.

The boxer, who has participated in national championships, shot the animal four times. The bear managed to swipe the firearm away and attack the Russian fighter, but in the end, Medvedev stabbed the bear to death.

Chebotar took the boxer to the boat and transported him to the hospital. Medvedev suffered serious wounds and is in intensive care with lacerations to the head and body.
