Square, a business payment software, announced that it would allow its employees to work remotely permanently, according to CNBC.
The company is owned by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who earlier made a similar announcement allowing Twitter employees to continue working from home even as California begins to reopen certain economic sectors.
“We want employees to be able to work where they feel most creative and productive,” a Square spokesperson told CNBC reporters. “Over the past several weeks, we’ve learned a lot about what it takes for people to effectively perform roles outside of an office, and we will continue to learn as we go.”

So far, Square and Twitter are the only major tech companies that have offered their employees a permanent work-from-home option after the pandemic closures end. CNBC notes that Dorsey has had a long history of supporting teleworking options.
Other tech companies, as well as businesses overall, have been forced to allow employees to work remotely since March 16, when San Francisco and surrounding counties were among the first in the country to issue a stay-at-home order in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
