Gosar’s siblings ratchet up criticism over Capitol riot

Rep. Paul Gosar’s siblings are featured in a new ad calling for people to sign a petition not to support the Arizona Republican because of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Gosar’s siblings, who have been vocal critics of the Republican congressman, said in an ad for the conservative Republican Accountability Project that he had a role in the riot because he spread false election fraud claims leading up to the event.

“There is no one member of Congress more responsible for the attack on the Capitol than Congressman Paul Gosar,” Jennifer Gosar, his sister, says in the ad.

“He should be held accountable for all the lies he told that led to the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6,” siblings Jennifer, Tim and David Gosar add in the video.

Paul Gosar’s siblings have spoken out against him before. After the Capitol riot, they sent a letter to Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) saying they needed help removing their brother from office.

The Arizona Republican hit back at his siblings in 2018 after they supported his Democratic opponent when he was running for reelection.

“My siblings who chose to film ads against me are all liberal Democrats who hate President Trump,” he said in a series of tweets. “These disgruntled Hillary suppporters are related by blood to me but like leftists everywhere, they put political ideology before family. Stalin would be proud.”

The congressman pushed the baseless conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems booths were changing Republican votes to President Biden and vowed to continue fighting the results after the election was called for Biden.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) has called for an ethics investigation into Paul Gosar along with other Republicans she has accused of inciting the Capitol riot.

The ad released Friday casts the congressman as a key figure in the “Stop the Steal” rally organized before the Capitol attack on Jan. 6.

The Hill has reached out to his office for comment.
