Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to debate Green New Deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) challenged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to a debate about the Green New Deal in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

“.@AOC I’d like to challenge you to a debate on the Green New Deal economic policy,” Greene tweeted.

Greene said that with her degree in business administration and experience running a company and Ocasio-Cortez’s degree in economics, a debate “would be informative for the American People.”

Greene said she and Ocasio-Cortez could each pick a moderator.

The debate would be on a major news network negotiated between the two, Greene said.

Ocasio-Cortez has been a leading proponent of the Green New Deal, saying it is needed to seriously combat climate change.

Republicans such as Greene have argued that the Green New Deal costs too much and is unrealistic.

Greene proposed charging people to watch the debate and said that “the money raised could be split between us for our choosing of where it goes.”

Greene has been a controversial figure for her past support of conspiracy theories but has stayed afloat among Republican voters, raising $3.2 million in the first quarter of 2021.

Ocasio-Cortez has not responded to Greene’s debate request on Twitter.

The Hill has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office for comment.
